(continued from home page)...that is as much information as is generally given to frame their argument. I must admit, I have not done a deep dive into the facts of the matter. I feel my time is much better spent in the Word than in investigating the latest evangelical upheaval.

As I understand the situation, Dr. Begg asked the individual in question if their family member knew her stand on the LGBTQ+ issue as a Christian. Her response was they did. She had been very clear on the matter. Then Dr. Begg advised her to do something for the family that would be completely unexpected and attend the service.

It is upon hearing this from Dr. Begg that many folks I truly respect have come off the rails, condemning him for his advice. It seems that they have given no consideration to the facts of the matter. Dr. Begg was advising one individual on the basis of a family matter. He was not making a statement of policy regarding every LGBTQ+ situation that might arise. He advised that the party in question show love, not judgment in this particular situation.

Have those who are condemning Dr. Begg considered Paul's words to the Corinthians?

1 Corinthians 5:9-12 (LSB)  I wrote you in my letter not to associate with sexually immoral people; 10) I did not at all mean with the sexually immoral people of this world, or with the greedy and swindlers, or with idolaters, for then you would have to go out of the world. 11) But now I am writing to you not to associate with any so-called brother if he is a sexually immoral person, or greedy, or an idolater, or a reviler, or a drunkard, or a swindler—not even to eat with such a one. 12) For what have I to do with judging outsiders? Are you not to judge those who are within the church?

I suppose given the opinion of those in disagreement, we should accordingly remove ourselves from the immoral people of the world. I wonder which planet would take us? Please understand, I totally believe the LGBTQ+ lifestyle is an affront to Almighty God and is condemned in Scripture. However, if we (Jesus-followers) remove ourselves from any contact with them, how will they ever hear the Gospel and repent? What  did Jesus say?
“Those who are healthy do not have need for a physician, but only those who are sick; I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”(Mark 2:17b LSB)
