Lessons for the Journey
Lessons for the Journey is the
teaching ministry of Dr. David
Clifton. His philosophy of ministry
is guided by the conviction that
Scripture is inspired, inerrant and
authoritative. His teaching is
based on the premise that the
events of Scripture did not
happen in a vacuum, nor did they
happen in a 21st century Western
culture.

To truly understand Scripture, one
must at least attempt to enter
the culture and observe the stage
upon which the events of
Scripture occurred.

Pastor David's style is what he
terms “teaching between the
lines.”  The vast majority of the
stories told in the Bible are not
mythical or rhetorical. They
occurred to actual people, living
in a particular place, at a certain
time in history. When we neglect
to provide for these facts, we fail
to understand the people who
received the original message and
parts of the message itself.
Entering the events on the page
and imagining what happened
that is not recorded is helpful in
understanding the culture and
message of the Bible, and serves
to make practical application of
the Bible's teachings for our every
day lives.

With that in mind, I offer the following commentary regarding the recent upheaval within conservative Christian circles over Alistair Begg's  advice to one of his members.
If you are unfamiliar with the circumstances simply do a search on YouTube and you will find more than you ever wanted to know. His advice to one of his members was that this individual should attend the same sex  marriage of one of her family members. I phrase it as such because in most cases, especially those that oppose this view...
